For some teens and adults, orthodontic treatment alone cannot fully correct their orthodontic problem.  Unlike children, teens and adults are no longer growing, so they may also need surgery in combination with orthodontic treatment to achieve a functional bite. Orthodontic treatment is done before and after surgery so that the individual's bite, chew, and speech is more effective.
